As you journey down the river, there’s a new experience around every bend as the Fiordland wilderness meets you at the river banks. Beech trees dip their branches into flowing waters, the breeze flutters the heads of the toi toi plants and trout swim lazily in the currents waiting for their next meal. Cormorants and paradise ducks rise from the waters and fly ahead of the boat. Smell the deep earthiness of the forest floor or the sweet honey scent of the Manuka trees and listen for the birdsong that can even be heard above the jet boat engines.

As you reach the pristine waters of Lake Manapouri, the water and mountains meet in an expansive breathtaking vista. As the engine is cut, the tranquillity and peace of the lake hushes voices and all that can be heard is the gently lapping of water on the boat’s bow.

Your friendly, experienced, informative driver will point out the key landmarks along the way, including three famous Lord of the Rings film locations of the River Anduin.
